Chinese America: A one-hour Special
GUESTS: Peter Kwong and Dusanka Miscevic, co-authors of “Chinese America: The Untold Story of America’s Oldest New Community.â€
During his trip to East Asia, President Bush has openly criticized the Chinese government, saying “”We encourage China to continue down the road of reform and openness, because the freer China is at home, the greater the welcome it will receive abroad.†He compared it to China’s rival, Taiwan, implying that Taiwan was a shining example of democracy, and an open economy. Today we take a look at America’s oldest new community, as it’s called by Peter Kwong and Dusanka Miscevic. They have co-written a book about the Chinese American community, and their on-going relationship to their homeland, as well as how the US has treated them historically and currently. I spoke with Peter and Dusanka in studio recently.
“Chinese America” is published by The New Press.
Sonali’s Subversive Thought for the Day:
“At this most dangerous hour for the American Empire, when frustration can easily lead to another desperate venture, one has to wonder who might be the next target. Iran? China? Should a conflict with China occur, Chinese Americans would almost certainly be targeted once again amidst the national hysteria that’s bound to erupt.†– from “Chinese America†by Peter Kwong and Dusanka Miscevic.
