California Secretary of State Challenges Diebold Machines to be Hacked
GUEST: Jim March, Investigator with Black Box Voting
Recently the California Secretary of State invited the watchdog group Black Box Voting to test Diebold corporation’s voting machines. Diebold Corporation is notorious for its efforts to squelch the publication of documents indicating serious flaws in its electronic voting systems. The testing protocol which Black Box Voting was invited to, required that no members of the public or the media could attend, neither could any video or other records be kept. The testing was set for yesterday, November 30th.

Robin Lovitt Wins Clemency
GUESTS: Kent Willis, Director of ACLU-Virginia, Jack Payden-Travers, Director of Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty
Robin Lovitt who would have been the 1000th prisoner to be executed since the Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976. Instead his sentence was commuted to life in prison without parole this week. Lovitt was convicted for stabbing a man to death with a pair of scissors during a 1988 pool hall robbery. Citing that evidence from his trial had been “improperly destroyed†Virginia’s newly elected governor, Mark Warner, commuted Lovitt’s death sentence. Over the past 28 years, the U.S. has executed one person every 10 days on average. On December 13th Nobel prize nominee Stanley “Tookie” Williams is due to be executed in California, unless Arnold Schwarzenegger grants clemency.

Plamegate: Lies that Led to War
GUEST: Robert Taicher, documentary film maker
Former US Ambassador Joseph Wilson said this week that his outspoken criticism of the Bush administration was not an act of moral courage but part of “what we do in a democracy.” He was referring to his denouncing the Bush administration’s justification for the war in Iraq, and rebuttal of the leak by a White House official that his wife worked for the CIA. Wilson has been a thorn in the side of the administration and today we present a brand new documentary featuring him called “PLAMEGATE: Lies that lead to War.” The documentary comes in the wake of the indictment against the Vice President’s Chief of Staff, Lewis “Scooter†Libby and delves into topics such as the Bush Administration’s smear campaign against him, lies that lead to the invasion of Iraq, and of course, the outing of his wife. The documentary was produced by award-winning filmmaker Robert Taicher, whose previous film, Rush to War, was critically acclaimed.

Sonali’s Subversive Thought for the Day:
“I think it’s time for the people and the press, in particular, to be more vigilant about not giving equal weight to lies as they give the truth.” – Joseph Wilson.
