Listen to the show

Caught in the CrossfireCaught in the Crossfire – a documentary by Mark Manning. And, Naomi Klein and George Galloway on US policy in Iraq and beyond. As we continue KPFK’s fund drive.

The influential Iraqi Shia cleric, Muqtada Al-Sadr, denounced the Iraqi constitution in an interview this past Saturday. The cleric claims that federalism in Constitution will encourage sectarianism. Meanwhile, violence continues in Iraq. Early this morning, six people were killed in Mosul when a man blew himself up in a restaurant near a police station. Twelve more people died midday as a bomb was set off on a bus in Baghdad. US actions in Iraq have only led to more instability and more bloodshed.

Today as part of our winter fund drive, we bring to you a documentary about Iraq and the US siege of Fallujah that occurred more than a year ago. “Caught in the Crossfire: The Untold Story of Fallujah,” is a joint production between American and Iraqi filmmakers. It documents the destruction of the city and the plight of its citizens after Operation Phantom Fury in November 2004. It is a perfect example of the devastating effects of US military tactics in Iraq.

Also featuring Naomi Klein on the US recreation of Iraqi society, and British MP, George Galloway on the US injustices in the Middle East.

Sonali’s Subversive Thought for the Day:

“Each of the Iraqi children killed by the United States was our child. Each of the prisoners tortured in Abu Ghraib was our comrade. Each of their screams was ours. When they were humiliated, we were humiliated.” – Arundhati Roy
