Last Saturday February 25th, hundreds of activists gathered at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena to raise awareness of the on-going war in Iraq, and its toll on Iraqis and US Soldiers. Cindy Sheehan with Gold Star Families for Peace was the keynote speaker. Also present was Fernando Suarez del Solar, and actors Martin Sheen and Mimi Kennedy, musician Jackson Browne, and Iraq veterans Tim Goodrich, Pablo Parades, Robert Acosta and others.

During his speech, Tim Goodrich of “Iraq Veterans Against the War” announced his intention to commit civil disobdience. I spoke with Tim after the event.

Actor Mimi Kennedy MCed the event and has been active in the anti-war movement. I asked her what she expected for 2006.

On March 12th, Iraq veteran Pablo Parades and Fernando Suarez of Gold Star Families for Peace will begin a 241 mile march starting in Tijuana, Mexico, going through Camp Pendleton to Cesar Chavez’s burial site in La Paz, and culminating in The Mission district of San Francisco. I spoke with Pablo Parades about the action.

Pablo and Fernando will be stopping through Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 15 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, at the Downtown UCLA Labor Center, 675 S. Park View St. Los Angeles, CA 90057. They will be joined by Code Pink’s Medea Benjamin, and Iraqi Blogger Faiza Al-Araji. The event will be Emceed by Uprising host, Sonali Kolhatkar.

Musician Jackson Browne was also at the event and sang “Crow on the Cradle” and “Lives in the Balance.” I spoke with him about music, politics, and political music.
