GUEST: Debbie X, member of the Tonantzin Collective

A group called the Tonantzin Collective will be holding a St. Patrick’s Day protest this Friday night in Costa Mesa. The protest will be held outside Skosh Monahan’s Steakhouse and Irish Pub – a restaurant owned by Costa Mesa Councilman, Gary Monahan. There have been weekly protests outside Monahan’s restaurant in response to his support of Mayor Mansoor’s controversial proposal to train police to enforce immigration law. The proposal was approved by Costa Mesa’s city council last December. The Tonantzin Collective is demanding that it be withdrawn, and are calling for the resignation of all council members who voted in favor of it. The Minuteman Project members and co-founder James Gilchrist, are countering the protest by dining at Monahan’s restaurant.

The protest will be from 6-9 pm, at Skosh Monahan’s Steakhouse and Irish Pub, at 2000 Newport Blvd on the corner of Newport Blvd and 20th. It will continue each Friday.
