Preparations for Los Angeles Demonstration Against HR 4437
GUESTS: Suyon Yi, Director of Special Projects at NAKASEC, Jesse Diaz, UC Riverside professor, Gloria Saucedo, Hermandad Mexicana, Pedro Holguin, MeCha student at Cal Poly Pomona
On Friday, March 11th well over 100,000 people took to the streets of downtown Chicago to demonstrate against the anti-immigrant Sensenbrenner bill. If passed, HR4437 will criminalize undocumented immigrants as felons and construct a 700-foot fence along the US-Mexico border. The bill is expected to be debated on the floor of the U.S. Senate on March 27th. Spurred by the success of the Chicago demonstration, several cities across the country will hold similar actions in the coming weeks. This Saturday, March 25th, there will be a mass mobilization in downtown Los Angeles beginning at Olympic and Broadway and culminating at City Hall. Organizers with the coalition against HR4437 hope to make the weekend march the largest pro-immigrant demonstration in recent history.
MARCH INFORMATION:
Activists are expected to gather on the corner of Olympic and Broadway in downtown LA on Saturday March 25th at 10 am. The march will head to City Hall for a rally.
