South Koreans Oppose US Free Trade Deal
GUEST: Yoomi Jeong, Secretary General of the Korea Truth Commission
Talks began earlier this week in Washington DC between US and South Korean negotiators over a Free Trade deal. South Korea, which has the world’s 11th largest economy, has operated on a series of tough economic regulations which US corporations want dismantled. At stake are three major industries: cars, drugs, and rice. Among the corporations that are relying on the negotiations succeeding are pharmaceutical giant Merck, as well as Ford Motor and General Motors. Meanwhile the US government has denied entry visas to more than 150 South Korean activists who had hoped to travel to Washington DC to protest the talks. I spoke yesterday with Yoomi Jeong, the Secretary General of the Korea Truth Commission, who was in DC for the protests against the US-South Korea Free Trade talks.
