Howard Zinn in Los Angeles on the topic of “Just War”
GUEST: Howard Zinn, people’s historian and author of “People’s History of the United States” ; latest book is “Just War”
Howard Zinn is a historian, playwright, and social activist, best known for his book, “A People’s History of the United States,” which has sold more than a million copies worldwide.
Howard Zinn was a shipyard worker and Air Force bombardier before he went to college under the G.I. Bill and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has taught at Spelman College and Boston University, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris and the University of Bologna. While at Spelman College, Zinn became involved in the Civil rights movement, where he was an adviser to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) . He went to to become a leading critic of the Vietnam War at Boston University. He has received the Thomas Merton Award, the Eugene V. Debs Award, the Upton Sinclair Award, and the Lannan Literary Award.
On May 12th of this year, Howard Zinn spoke in Los Angeles with Dr. Gino Strada, an Italian surgeon and international activist. They were launching their new book called “Just War.” I moderated the event and today we’d like to play you the entire address by Professor Howard Zinn.
