Michael Zinzun, dedicated community activist and former Black Panther, died in his sleep on Sunday July 9th at his home in Pasadena. He was 57. Michael Zinzun was best known for waging ferocious battles against police abuse whether in street protests or in the courts. He was a familiar voice on KPFK as one of the founders of the Coalition Against Police Abuse or CAPA. Through CAPA, Zinzun fought for years to establish civilian police review boards in cities throughout LA County. He even ran for election in the Pasadena City Council. In recent years Zinzun took a break from his hectic activism, by enrolling in a Pasadena culinary school, studying to be a chef.
