LAPD Target Anti-Minuteman Protestors
| the entire program
GUEST: Bill Paparian, Criminal Defense Lawyer, representing Lilliana Lopez and Jose Villa
Lilliana Lopez, a KPFK news reporter and Jose Villa, a 21 year old college student, are scheduled to appear in court today on charges stemming from an anti-minuteman counter-demonstration. On July 8th, members of anti-immigrant groups including the Minuteman Project gathered on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle Avenue for a march and rally. A comparable number of counter-demonstrators assembled to denounce them. After nearly two hours of peaceful protests, Los Angeles Police Department officers unexpectedly began arresting and brutalizing several counter protestors while Minuteman supporters cheered on. Jose Villa, whom we spoke with on Uprising soon after the rally, is being charged with “attempted lynching.†A videotape posted by a pro-minuteman supporter shows Villa being knocked to the ground and hit repeatedly with batons. Lilliana Lopez was also brutally beaten and arrested. The LAPD has opened an internal investigation into Jose Villa’s arrest. I spoke recently with Bill Paparian, lawyer for Jose Villa and Liliana Lopez, about the case.
Here is a video of Jose Villa and his girlfriend getting beaten by LAPD:
Here is another video of the same incident taped by a Minute Man supporter:

Hi, Neat post. There’s an issue with your website in internet explorer, may check this? IE still is the market chief and a big element of other folks will leave out your great writing because of this problem.
