RwandaGUESTS: David Rose, Director, Erica Tazel, actor in role of Juliette

Over this past weekend, The Colony Theatre Company presented the west coast premiere of “I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda.” Written by Sonja Linden and directed by David Rose, “Young Lady from Rwanda,” shares the journey of Juliette, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, and Simon, a struggling middle-aged poet in London, England. With the help of Simon, Juliette learns to cope with her horrific recollections of the genocide through writing. In turn, Simon is motivated as a writer once more through their burgeoning friendship. Sonja Linden was inspired to write the play after her experiences as a writer in residence at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims and Torture where she encountered many young Rwandan refuges. In 2003, “Young Lady from Rwanda,” successfully premiered in London. In a following review, the Times of London has said of the play “Beg, buy or steal a ticket.”

“Young Lady From Rwanda” is showing at The Colony Theater, at 555 N. 3rd Street in Burbank. For tickets and more information, visit www.colonytheater.org or call 818-558-7000.
