Nurses Protest ArnoldGUESTS: Joe Newlin, organizer with California Nurses Association, Pauline Kiwasz, a Registered Nurse at UCLA, with the California Nurses Association

“Nurses vs. Arnold: Terminating Political Corruption” is a new film that documents the political struggles of the California Nurses Association against Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Executive-produced by Robert Greenwald of Brave New Films, “Nurses vs. Arnold” chronicles the struggle of nurses starting with the battle over nurse-to-patient ratios, last year’s special elections, and continuing to the present day. Political analysts attribute the success of CNA as an important factor in his drastic drop in approval ratings and his special elections failure last year. The CNA hopes that the film will serve as a grassroots organizing tool for this year’s upcoming elections and proposition 89. The California Nurses Association have sponsored proposition 89, or the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act, as it is also known on this November’s ballot. The initiative hopes to make politicians accountable to voters rather than special interests by limiting contributions and establishing public funding for candidates who agree not to accept private money for their campaigns.
