Controversial Costa Mesa City Mayor Allan Mansoor is seeking a second term in office this November 7th. Mayor Mansoor attracted major media attention to the Orange County city of Costa Mesa when he spearheaded an immigration proposal that sought to train a number of sheriff deputies in immigration enforcement. The controversial proposal was recently approved by Orange County Supervisors this past October. In his re-election bid, Mayor Mansoor has raised the most money and received the most attention, yet has failed to gain the key endorsements of the city’s police and fire associations. Some members of the community feel that Mayor Mansoor and his policies have polarized the city and given it a bad reputation. In response, a group of business and community leaders have formed the “Return to Reason” Coalition to oust Mayor Mansoor and have endorsed two candidates, Bruce Garlich and Mike Scheafer for city council seats. Two city council seats are up for election and prove to be pivotal should Mansoor win re-election. Six candidates in total are running including Wendy Leece, an ally of Mansoor’s and Latina activist and restaurant owner Mirna Burciaga.
