No SweatGUEST: Amie Williams, film maker of “No Sweat”

From the garment factory capital of the world, located right here in Los Angeles, comes No Sweat – a powerful new documentary by locally based film maker, Amie Williams. The documentary focuses on two companies that dared to turn the standard garment factory model on its head. Sweat X, financially backed by ice-cream maker turned social activist Ben Cohen and with a unionized workforce; and American Apparel, built from the ground up by Canadian born eccentric Dov Charney and a non-unionized workforce. Both companies were marketed to people who wanted to buy sweat-shop free clothing. Amie Williams spent two years tracking these two companies and their workers to examine how the models were different from the industry standards, and how they performed. No Sweat will be premiering at the AFI film festival.

“No Sweat” will be screening at the ArcLight Theatre on Tuesday, Nov 7 at 9:45 pm and Wednesday, Nov 8 at 5:30 pm. ArcLight is located at 6360 W Sunset Blvd (between Vine and Ivar, with DeLongpre to the south) Los Angeles, CA.
