For the past two days, multi-national private security and defense companies gathered in Tucson, Arizona with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security for a conference on “border security cooperation.” Diplomatic representatives from 19 countries such as Israel, Australia, and Mexico also participated in the COMDEF conference. Participants from the private and public sector gathered at the Sheraton hotel to discuss various possibilities surrounding border enforcement. In response, Tucson based activists protested outside of the Sheraton Hotel to denounce what they saw profiteering and privatization on the border.
