Alternative ways to buy holiday gifts while preserving your conscience this weekend:

1. KPFK will have its Annual Parking Lot Sale, tomorrow, Saturday December 9th, from 10 am to 2 pm at 3729 Cahuenga Blvd West in North Hollywood. There will be Books, CDs, DVDs, and more, available for sale. All sales will benefit KPFK directly. 2. The 2nd Annual Fair Trade Crafts Fair will take place on Saturday December 9th from 11 am to 4 pm at the Echo Park Methodist Church, located at 1226 North Alvarado Street. There will be a large selection of affordable, sweat-shop free crafts made by artists internationally and locally including embroidered pillow-covers, wallets and purses from Afghanistan, locally made silver jewelry, blankets, scarves and tote-bags, as well as organic fair trade coffee and honey by the Zapatistas, items by the Garment Workers Center, and more. All proceeds will directly benefit the artists and organizations that produce the items. Again, that’s the Annual Fair Trade Crafts Fair on Saturday December 9th from 11 am to 4 pm at the Echo Park Methodist Church, located at 1226 North Alvarado Street.

3. The Annual Antimall takes place this Sunday December 9th from 11 am to 4 pm at the El Sereno Community Garden on Huntington Drive between Lowell and Maycrest. The Antimall will feature local artists and vendors and their wares as well as music by bands like Quetzal, and dance performances. Half of all proceeds will benefit the APPO resistance movement in Oaxaca. Again, that’s the Antimall on Sunday December 9th from 11 am to 4 pm at the El Sereno Community Garden on Huntington Drive between Lowell and Maycrest.

I simply love Uprising. It is a complete, concise, informative show that every resident of Los Angeles should listen to. Uprising is one of my main sources of information about community events and activism in the Los Angeles area. This show is not just informative but also inspiring. Uprising was one of the main influences that motivated me to be a more active citizen in my community.
