Cuban Hip Hop: By Any Means Necessary Hour 2
Listen to the entire program
Hosted by Gabriel San Roman and Vanessa Diaz.
(Originally aired on KPFK Los Angeles, December 29th, 2006)
GUEST: Alexey Rodriguez, Cuban rapper of the hip hop group Obsesion
In the first hour of Cuban Hip Hop: By Any Means Necessary, we presented a number of songs and spoke about Cuban Hip Hop in terms of it being a vehicle for criticism for Afro-Cuban youths within Cuban society. In this hour we discuss Cuban Hip Hop Festivals, Symposiums, the Institutionalization of Cuban Hip Hop by the Cuban Government, and the connections between the United States and Cuba in terms of hip hop culture and in spite of the imposition of a decades long embargo. We conclude the program by asking the simple question; does Cuba truly have a hip hop culture, or just rap music?
Hour two of Cuban Hip Hop: By Any Means Necessary featured the music of:
* Reyes de las Calles
* Doble Filo
* Tony Touch, Obsesion, and Anonimo Consejo
* Obsesion
* Papo Record
* Explosion Suprema f/ La Mala Rodriguez
