Safety – A Play by Chris Thorpe
| the entire program
GUESTS: John Montana, plays the lead role of Michael, and Mac Brandt, plays the role of Sean, who saves Michael’s daughter
British playwright Chris Thorpe has written a new play called “Safety” about the increasing desensitization to the horrors of war. The central character in the play, Michael, is an internationally-renowned war photographer who has spent his career on the front lines, capturing what have become iconic images of combat atrocities, pain and suffering. As he prepares for a major retrospective of his work at a London gallery, Michael revaluates his roles as a reporter, as a husband who’s never there, and as a father who hesitated when his daughter needed him most. The play has premiered on the West Coast on January 12th and continues through February 18th at the McCadden Place Theater in Hollywood. “Safety” deals with a very modern form of alienation: how can we continue to respond humanely to the constant horrors of war depicted in the media? And what happens to those whose job it is to report them?
Performances of Safety take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, January 12 through February 18. Tickets range from $15.00 – $20.00. The McCadden Place Theatre is located at 1157 N. McCadden Place (one block north of Santa Monica Blvd. and one block east of Highland) in Hollywood.
