President Bush’s delivery of the state of the union yesterday comes at the heels of his 28% approval rating. This is the lowest rating any president has had on the day of the big speech since President Nixon’s 1974 State of the Union address. With his characteristic non-focus and double speak Bush addressed or non-addressed several issues. Including the economy, healthcare, immigration, oil addiction, and of course the war on terror. As always, Bush left the audience with a pithy doublespeak soundbite, stating that, “free people are not drawn to violent and malignant ideologies, and also stated that, “economy is on the move”. What probably characterizes this State of the Union address more is what President Bush left out: including any mention of the hurricane battered gulf region.
