Iraqi Women Speak Out – DVD – $100
Last year 8 Iraqi women were invited to the United States in a trip sponsored by the US women’s peace group, Code Pink. Of the 8 women, six were granted visas. The two women whose entire families were killed by US bombs were denied visas. “Iraqi Women Speak Out†is a new DVD produced by Deep Dish TV and Code Pink focusing on the voices of the six women who toured the US. You may recall we interviewed one of them in studio here on Uprising, Faiza Al Araji, a civil engineer who runs a blog.
Anthony Arnove’s Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal – paperback – $65
Anthony Arnove, activist, writer and journalist’s has written a crucial new handbook for the antiwar movement: Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal, just out in paper back. The book, inspired by Howard Zinn’s historic, “Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal,†lays out a clear analysis of why the US must immediately withdraw from Iraq. More importantly, he shares effective strategies for going about it. Ron Kovic says it is a “powerful and compelling argument on behalf of withdrawal from Iraq.†Cindy Sheehan calls his analysis “brilliant.â€
Soldier We Love You – DVD – $60
With his high profile refusal to fight in the Iraq war, First Lt. Ehren Watada has become the poster boy for the anti-war movement. His court martial by the military recently resulted in a mistrial, a story we’ve covered extensively on KPFK. Now, a brand new DVD compiled by Pepperspray Productions documents the extraordinary story of this highest ranking military war resister in his own words. Soldier We Love You is a fantastic video document containing Watada’s historic speech in Seattle at the Veterans for Peace convention, where he first spoke out about his resistance. This speech garnered him the charge of “conduct unbecoming an officer.â€
