Soldier, We Love You- DVD – $60

With his high profile refusal to fight in the Iraq war, First Lt. Ehren Watada has become the poster boy for the anti-war movement. His court martial by the military recently resulted in a mistrial, a story we’ve covered extensively on KPFK. Now, a brand new DVD compiled by Pepperspray Productions documents the extraordinary story of this highest ranking military war resister in his own words. Soldier We Love You is a fantastic video document containing Watada’s historic speech in Seattle at the Veterans for Peace convention, where he first spoke out about his resistance. This speech garnered him the charge of “conduct unbecoming an officer.”

The Road to Guantanamo – DVD – $125

Based on the true story of the “Tipton Three,” The Road to Guantanamo is a docudrama that has garnered much attention and controversy. Part documentary, part dramatization, The Road to Guantanamo chronicles the experiences of three young British Muslim citizens who were detained in the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for two years without charge. Awarded in the 2006 Berlin Film Festival, The Road to Guantanamo provides a look into the world of imprisonment, interrogations and torture at one of the United States’ most infamous prisons.The New York Times has called the Road to Guantanamo, “Amazing,” and “A film of staggering force.” Filmmaker Michael Moore has also said that the film is one that, “every American voter should see.” The Road to Guantanamo has been the center of controversy for its critical stances toward the US and British governments. Last year, the Motion Picture Association of America censored an advertisement poster for the film for its depiction of of a man with a burlap bag over his head. The MPAA said that the image was one of torture and inappropriate for children to see.
