William BlumGUEST: William Blum, author of “Freeing the World to Death: Essays on the American Empire,” and “Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II”

William Blum former State Department employee turned US foreign policy critic, is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work, “Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II.” He left the State Department in opposition to the Vietnam war. William Blum was the founder and editor of the Washington Free Press, one of many newspapers in the loosely organized U.S. underground press in the 1960s and 1970s that opposed the Vietnam War. From 1972 to ’73 he was stationed in Chile, where he reported on the Allende government’s “socialist experiment”. In the mid-1970s, he worked in London with ex-CIA agent Philip Agee, author of “Inside the Company: CIA Diary.” William Blum currently circulates a monthly email newsletter called “The Anti-Empire Report.”

William Blum will be speaking in Los Angeles this Friday, March 9th at 7:30 PM at the Venice United Methodist Church, 1020 Victoria Avenue in Venice. The title of his talk is “Is it a War on Terrorism or Expansion of the Empire?” For more information call: 310-838-8131
