| the entire program
GUEST: Ann Fessler, author of “The Girls Who Went Away”
This Wednesday, July 11th, author Ann Fessler will appear at the Los Angeles Public Library to promote the re-release of her critically-acclaimed book, The Girls Who Went Away. Originally published in 2006, The Girls Who Went Away focuses on the era from the end of WWII until the historic Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 that established women’s right to privacy and the freedom of choice in abortion. Fessler recounts the stories of more than a hundred women who were forced to surrender their children to adoption due to immense social pressure from friends, family, and community and due to the lack of available resources and alternatives at the time. An adoptee herself, Fessler also narrates her own quest to reunite with her birth mother.
Ann Fessler will be at the Los Angeles Public Library on Wednesday, July 11th at 650 West 5th Street, LA. The event begins at 7PM.
