Republican legislator, John Adams in Ohio, has proposed a new law that would ban pregnant women from seeking an abortion without written consent from the father of the fetus. In cases where the identity of the father is unknown, women would be required to submit a list of possible fathers and the physician would be forced to conduct a paternity test from the provided list and then seek paternal permission to abort. Meanwhile, Ohio is considering another plan to provide for 12 weeks of mandated maternity leave, proposed by the state’s Civil Rights Commission. At a public hearing on that proposal this past Wednesday, business groups fought the measure. In particular the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and other groups said the proposal could force small businesses to eliminate other employee benefits or even leave Ohio.
