GabnetGUESTS: Faith Santilla, GABRIELA member and media liason, Ivy Quicho, Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter of GABRIELA Network

On August 5th, Dr. Annalisa Enrile was prevented from returning to Los Angeles from the capital city of the Philippines. Dr. Enrile, who is the national chairperson of the GABRIELA Network, was informed that she was on the “hold list” of the Philippine Department of Justice. Two other GABRIELA Network members, Ninotchka Rosca and Judith Mirkinson, are reportedly on the same hold list and could face the same restriction of movement as Dr. Enrile. The “GABNet 3” had gone to the Philippines to attend the 10th bi-annual Women’s International Solidarity Affair. The three also participated in an all-woman human rights legal mission last year where the Philippine army among others was named in the assassinations of nearly nine hundred activists. The women’s participation in this mission could have provoked the Department of Justice to put them on the list. The GABRIELA Network is calling on supporters to pressure US lawmakers and the US Ambassador to the Philippines to secure the return of the GABNet 3.

There will be a rally in front of the Philippines Embassy on Monday August 13th from 4-9 pm, 3600 Wilshire Blvd. Download the flyer here: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a144/iv3s/GABNET3VIGIL08.13.jpg

Gabriela Network is calling on supporters to fax and email the US Embassy in the Philippines urging them to help get the Gabnet 3 out of LA. The Embassy email address is acsinfomanila@state.gov.
