GUEST:Andrew Mcguire, Health care for All California

In response to a new field poll, Arnold Schwarzenegger came out against a state government-run health care system. In the poll, 69 percent of California voters questioned say they are dissatisfied with how the health care system is working and just 28 percent are satisfied with it. Schwarzenegger, who struggled for 52 days to get two Republican votes in the state Senate to pass the budget, said he still wants a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s health care system. The Republican governor has strenuously rejected the One Care for All bill, or Senate Bill 840, a single-payer health care bill introduced by Sen. Sheila Kuehl of Santa Monica and written by senators Barbara Lee and Diane Watson. Governor Schwarzenegger calls the legislation to abolish private health care insurance, a “government-run health care scheme.” While aggressively dismissing Senate Bill 840 and other Democratic proposals for health care reform, he has paradoxically said and that he will oppose any bill that doesn’t include sacrifices from all parts of society — including healthcare providers, individuals and businesses to insurare coverage for all. With over 6.5 million uninsured residents in California the fight for Universal Health Care is just beginning.
