Updates on Recent Uprising Stories
In an update to a story we’ve been following for close to two years: the case against Coyotl Tezcatlipoca was dismissed yesterday by the presiding judge. Coyotl was silenced by the local mayor, arrested and beaten by cops after respectfully speaking out a Costa Mesa City Council meeting in January of 2006. After the ACLU filed a lawsuit on his behalf, the Costa Mesa City “Prosecutor” charged Coyotl. Coyotl’s case was dismissed because it turns out that Dan Peelman is not, in fact an appointed prosecutor, but a private attorney – which is why the judge decided to dismiss the case.

There is also an update on a story we covered yesterday about the social security administration’s so-called “no match” letters. A federal judge extended an order that temporarily stops the government from implementing a new rule that would illegally use error-prone social security records as a tool for immigration enforcement.

Thanks for updating the public on Coyotl’s case, which has gotten minimal press in Costa Mesa and elsewhere.
