GUEST: Jerry Quickley, Spoken Word Artist, Host of Beneath the Surface on KPFK

“Un-Embedded,” is the second play of a trilogy by acclaimed spoken word artist Jerry Quickley. Well known to KPFK listeners as the host of Beneath the Surface, Quickley explores the human dimension of the occupation of Iraq through his one man performance piece. Informed by his personal experiences in Iraq, “Un-Embedded,” potently combines elements of poetry and journalism. Characters in the play include a former Iraqi commando, a Christian motivational speaker, an ex-stuntman turned mercenary, and an Iraqi businessman who has profited handsomely from the occupation. Through these various voices, “Un-Embedded,” presents the lives of people behind the policies. Variety magazine has said of Jerry Quickley that his “subject us essential, his story dramatic, and his poetry potent.” Un-Embedded will run throughout this weekend at the Redcat in Downtown Los Angeles starting tonight.
