Targeting the So-Called Enemy, What US Imperialism Says, Goes
SPECIAL GUEST: David Barsamian, author of “Targeting Iran,” journalist and radio host “Alternative Radio,” heard regularly on KPFK Fridays at 3pm
Russian President Vladimir Putin says that US fears that Iran is creating a nuclear arsenal are unfounded. Putin met with Ayatollah Khamenei and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedenijad during a visit to Tehran to attend a summit along with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan – all nations agreed that their territories cannot be used to launch strikes against the others. Putin’s visit and comments that the US should not even think of using military force in the region come as the US and France are both refusing to rule out an attack against Iran for its nuclear program – which they say is being used to produce nuclear weapons instead of energy. Russia also blocked UN sanctions proposed to pressure Iran to ditch its nuclear program, and Putin’s statements dashed some hopes in Washington that Russia would join the call for sanctions against Iran. Putin’s visit to Tehran marks the first time a Russian leader has made a visit since Joseph Stalin was there in 1943. To get some historical perspective on this and other matters related to ever-expanding US imperialism, we’re joined in studio by award-winning author and radio host David Barsamian.
