GUESTS: Molly Bingham and Steve Connors, Filmmakers

In April 2003, people around the world watched a massive statue of Saddam Hussein toppled by US troops on television. Just a few days later, small style insurgent attacks against US occupiers began to place. Since then, the resistance fighters have carried out hundreds of attacks. After historic elections, the capture of a supposed leader, a massive assault on Fallujah, and the semblance of the handover of sovereignty, the Iraqi resistance continues its attacks on US troop bases and movements. Filmmakers Steve Connors and Molly Bingham spent the better part of one year documenting what was then a nascent resistance movement in the Adhamiya neighborhood of Baghadad. Their new film, “Meeting Resistance”, which opens at the Regency Fairfax Cinema tomorrow, captures the human story behind the resistance, and through their own words, fighters explain the motives behind their insurgence. These everyday people from all walks of life describe what the war and subsequent occupation of their country has meant to them, and why it prompts them to defend their land and their sovereignty.

“Meeting Resistance” is playing at:
Regency Fairfax Cinema
7907 Beverly Blvd.
