No Borders Camp Attacked

| the entire program

GUEST: Jeffrey Boyce, Tucson Participant with the No Borders Camp

Border Patrol officers brought a bi-national no borders encampment to a violent close last Sunday by forcefully dispersing activists. Organizers with the No Borders Camp gathered at the U.S.-Mexico border on the 18th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, for a 5-day-long camp to oppose its continuing militarization. The event coincided with The Week of Action Against the Apartheid Wall in the Occupied Territories. A march was held on Sunday to close the camp when a group of about one-hundred border patrol agents descended on thirty protesters with pepper spray pellets, tazers and batons. Several activists were detained while trying to flee the scene of the Calexico/Mexicali port of entry rally. A video on noborderscamp.org documents the Border Patrol’s actions, though mainstream media has largely failed to report the story. Prior to the border clash, events of the No Border Camp included a march on the immigrant detention facility in the city of El Centro as well as a memorial service for migrants who have died attempting to cross.

This is such an important issue, sadly the person being interviewed is the WORST public speaker I’ve ever heard. Someone really needs to teach this guy to speak. The over use of the word “UM” detracted from the content so much I turned the radio OFF.

Really, it was THAT bad. Add to that a complete and total lack of passion for the cause this guy defends, and you’ve got one of the worst interviews ever to be played over the air.

And it ain’t the first time I’ve turned this guy off when he’s spoken on this show.

The issue of what is occurring at the border and with the immigrants passing through to what is perceived to be a better life is way too important to not be heard clearly and eloquently.
