Jeremy HinzmanGUEST: Lee Zaslofsky, Coordinator of the War Resisters Support Campaign, joining us live from Toronto, Canada

The Canadian Arab Federation is the latest in a group of growing voices demanding that US War resisters fleeing this country be allowed to stay in Canada. Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court of Canada refused to hear the appeals of two war resisters Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey. The decision effectively upheld previous court rulings that held that the two men were not refugees in need of protection. The denial of their appeal bid effectively ended their legal quest to remain in Canada and could set a precedent for other Iraq war resisters in the country. If deported, the two men could face a court martial and a maximum prison sentence of five years. The Canadian Arab Federation, along with other supporters, are calling on their members of parliament to make a provision allowing for all US war resisters to stay in Canada. Canada’s progressive party, the New Democratic Party, has said it would introduce a motion calling for hearings on the issue.
