Lysa Flores: Immigrant Daughter
| the entire program
GUEST: Lysa Flores, musician, activist, actress
Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Lysa Flores has for years melded her evocative lyrics with folk-rock melodies in pioneering the Chicana alternative scene. The multi-talented singer, musician, activist and actress has toured with many well known musicians such as Los Lobos, and has appeared in films such as the acclaimed “Star Maps.” Today she runs her own independent label, “Bring Your Love Records.” Flores has released two solo bilingual albums “Tree of Hope,” and “The Making of a Trophy Grrrl.” The latter musically expressed the coming of age of a Latina in the cosmetically obsessed metropolis of Los Angeles. Now Lysa Flores is hard at work on her next album, “Immigrant Daughter,” which will feature collaborations with musicians such as John Doe and the legendary Flaco Jimenez. Latina Magazine has simply said of Lysa Flores that “This Chicana rocks.”
