New Report On ICE Raids
| the entire program
GUEST: Arnoldo Garcia, Enforcement Project Director with the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights
The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights released last week one of the first reports to document the on-going raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE. The report is entitled “Over-Raided, Under Siege: U.S. Immigration Laws and Enforcement Destroy the Rights of Immigrants,” and covers over 100 stories of human rights abuses against immigrants during 2006 – 2007, including those arising from 206 immigration raids. The report kicked off a national conference in Houston which brought over 500 participants from immigrant rights, community and faith-based organizations, unions, workers’ centers, and more. Meanwhile immigration has emerged as a top issue in the presidential elections, particularly in the Republican races.
