Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar is the latest US Senator to publicly throw her support behind Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Obama now leads Hillary Clinton in the count of Superdelegate pledges from the Senate. A new Gallup Poll has found that both Democrats and Republicans agree that Obama would give John McCain a tougher fight for the White House than Hillary Clinton. The poll additionally showed that 56 percent of Democrats surveyed said the extended Democratic Primary is doing “more harm than good.” According to the Superdelegate Transparency Project, overall Clinton is still leading Obama by 246 to 213 in superdelegates, with more than 300 still undecided. When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently suggested that superdelegates should be guided by the vote for pledged delegates, she was sent a strongly worded letter by high-stakes donors to the Party who support Hillary Clinton, warning her to stay out of the debate. Pelosi has since backtracked on her comments, saying that Superdelegates should “vote their conscience.” Meanwhile, a new study by the Center for Responsive Politics concluded that campaign contributions from the two Democratic candidates have become a fairly reliable predictor of whose side a superdelegate will take.
