Lonnie Jordan’s War Stories
| the entire program
GUEST: Lonnie Jordan, founded member of the legendary group WAR. His first solo album is “War Stories,” out now on Fantasy Records.
Formed in 1969, the musical band War have successfully blended funk for the last several decades while singing socially conscious songs such as “The World is a Ghetto.” Fifty million album sales later, founding member and lead vocalist Lonnie Jordan has opened chapter two of his musical career. Last summer, he released his first solo album, “War Stories,” on Fantasy Records. Describing his album as a “musical autobiography,” Jordan’s compilation features new versions of War classics as well as brand new songs. Jordan will be playing in Los Angeles this weekend at the Greek Theater with War. His newest jazz funk four-piece called the “War-tet,” featuring Pancho Tomaselli, Sal Rodriguez, and David Urquidi joined us in KPFK’s Studio A earlier this week to perform songs for today’s Uprising broadcast.
Lonnie Jordan and War will be playing this weekend at the Greek Theater on Saturday May 24th at 7 pm with Tierra, Malo, and Thee Midniters, and on Sunday May 25th at 7 pm with Tierra, El Chicano, the Chris Montes Show.
