The International Atomic Energy Agency released a new report on Monday investigating Iran’s nuclear activities. The IAEA’s latest findings show no proof that Iran has had a functioning nuclear arms program since 2004. Conversely, the report strongly urged the Tehran government to provide more information regarding its research into high explosives testing and missile-related activities calling the matter a “serious concern.” The IAEA also mentioned that Iran had failed to address eleven of its key concerns regarding its program as it submitted a 10 page document much too late to be properly assessed. Nevertheless, the Iranian ambassador to the U.N. agency called the recent report a vindication for the country’s nuclear program and called the Western intelligence that prompted the investigation baseless. Meanwhile, Asia Times Online cites an unnamed source saying that the Bush administration has plans to strike Iran in August. The target of the attack would not be Iran’s nuclear program, however. The informant, who is said to be a former assistant secretary of state, claimed that the airstrike would be aimed at the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps which the U.S. declared to be a terrorist organization last year.
