The Uprising: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington

These days the so-called American Dream, more closely resembles a nightmare. Americans are struggling with unemployment, stagnating wages, job insecurity, falling housing prices, rising gas and food prices, poor health coverage, rising debt, and the un-ending war in Iraq that has claimed the lives of thousands. Congress and the President are facing record low approval ratings by people across the political spectrum. Has all this discontent led to any major popular revolts? Not if you read the corporate media. But political organizer and nationally syndicated columnist David Sirota has a new book out called “The Uprising,” detailing what he says are serious indications of revolts nationwide, that have the potential to turn into real social movements for change.

David Sirota is a a senior fellow at the Campaign for America’s Future and founder of the “Progressive States Network.” He is also a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, whose earlier book Hostile Takeover, was a New York Times Bestseller. His new book is called “The Uprising: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington.” I spoke recently with David during his book tour.

Sirota gives the Obama campaign as a good example of mobilizing grassroots support.

Team Obama may have done an excellent job “working” the new media to garner support but Sirota should also point out how these new- found supporters are being “played.”

Obama is no progressive. Read beyond the mainstream media misinformation and you will discover he is another DLC disciple who pledges allegiance to Wall Street and the military industrial complex first and Main Street last – way last.

Sirota gushes about how this progressive “uprising” is scaring Wall Street. Just how is it scaring Wall Street and Corporate America? By electing Obama, a neoliberal hawk? By continued tepid criticism or ignoring of a Democratic Congress who vote yea for every war funding, security, and trade bill the Republicans put forth? Wall Street and gang are laughing their heads off as so-called progressives and lefties go orgasmic over Obama. CEO America is downright giddy over its good fortune in Obama, a slick hustler who can bamboozle the ignorant masses to get elected but will continue the govt policy of greedism and warmongering to keep corporate coffers overflowing with swag.

Sirota does not impress. He is another limousine lefty who whines a good game but refuses to take off the kid gloves and call out the Democratic party for all its abuses of the trust and well being of its poor/working/middle class constituents. Any interview that compliments Obama’s campaigning acumen but fails to criticize said campaign’s hypocrisy and shallowness proves my limousine lefty accusation.
