Voices of the Chicago 8: A Conversation With Tom Hayden – Part 2
| the entire program
GUEST: Tom Hayden, former state assembly and senate representative, member of the “Chicago 8,” co-author of several books including Voices of the Chicago Eight
A Generation on Trial
Yesterday we played you part 1 of a conversation I recently had with activist and writer Tom Hayden, about the tumultuous sixties, and the seminal moment when the so-called Chicago 8 were on trial. Tom Hayden and 7 other prominent activists were arrested at the demonstrations outside the 1968 Democratic Party Convention in Chicago. The demonstrations and ensuing trial came in the midst of historic struggles over war, civil rights, women’s rights, and more. Now, in an effort to preserve the history of the trial, Tom Hayden, who went on to serve in the California State Assembly and the State Senate, has co-authored a new book called Voices of the Chicago Eight: A Generation on Trial. The book includes writings by Hayden, as well as the transcript of a play by Frank Condon and Ron Sossi based on actual court transcripts.
Today we’ll hear part 2 of the interview with Tom Hayden.
