Trouble the Water
| the entire program
Nearly three years ago, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region killing nearly 2000 people and displacing hundreds of thousands. But worse than the hurricane itself was the aftermath. Among those who did not have the means to leave the city, were a couple living in the ninth ward, Kimberly and Scott Roberts. Armed with only a camcorder, they survived the harrowing storm and witnessed the lack of government action in the aftermath. Now, a new film using the footage taken by Kim Roberts called Trouble the Water, is making waves in the world of independent film making. Trouble the Water is directed and produced by Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, the producers of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine. It won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and has been hailed by the New York Times as “one of the best American documentaries in recent memory…” The film makers tag the story as being “not about a hurricane,” but “about America.”
