The Boxer Rebellion by Subversive Historian Gabriel San Roman

One-hundred and eight years ago on this day in people’s history, the Boxer Rebellion ended in Beijing, China. On August 14th, 1900 an eight-nation international alliance mostly from the west repressed an uprising that highlighted the tensions of late 19th century China. The Boxer Rebellion began nearly one year prior in reaction to increasing foreign incursions into political, economical and religious affairs. The members of the Society of Right and Harmonious Fists, or “boxers” as they were called, took control of Beijing for fifty-five days until being put down by the multinational force. Western media at the time and its subsequent histories portrayed the boxers as irrational xenophobes, while the Communist Party of China has enshrined them as part of the country’s anti-imperialist history.

The truth may be more nuanced than such dualism, but the question begs: if your country was being carved into “spheres of influence” by foreign powers, would you have raised a harmonious fist of some kind?

Let’s keep it real! For Uprising, this is your truth professa saying it’s no mystery why they conceal our history!
