The Arrest of Steve Biko by Subversive Historian Gabriel San Roman

Thirty-one years ago on this day in people’s history, anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko was arrested in King William’s Town, South Africa. On August 18th, 1977, the founder of the Black Consciousness Movement was apprehended at a police roadblock under the apartheid regime’s Terrorism Act. While in police custody, Biko, who helped organize protests that culminated in the Soweto Uprising of 1976, sustained a major head injury during interrogations. He would later die as a result of brain damage. Police initially claimed Biko’s death to be caused by the health effects of a hunger strike. However, in 1997, five former South African security officers admitting to killing Biko in the Truth and Reconciliation Report. Despite their admission, no one has been held accountable for the murder.

Death by hunger strike by way of head injury? It seems like the apartheid terrorists were feeding us a lot of something on that one.

For Uprising, this is your truth professa saying it’s no mystery why they conceal our history!
