When asked by Pastor Rick Warren last weekend what qualified as rich in the US, Republican presidential hopeful John McCain suggested that an annual income of $5 million was a good starting point. Does that mean that someone making $4 million a year is in the middle class? McCain has painted his rival, Democratic hopeful Barack Obama, as an elitist celebrity. Yet, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, McCain himself is worth between $27 and $45 million personally, while Obama is worth a paltry $456,000 to $1.1 million. Strangely, instead of critically analyzing McCain’s claims, the mainstream press are focusing on how the “gaffe” hurt McCain’s campaign. Meanwhile, it is worth reminding ourselves that this presidential election is the most expensive in the history of the country with both major party candidates raising more than $75 million in the month of June alone. Now, Brave New Films has released a new web video called McCain’s Mansions, highlighting the Arizona Senator’s wealth and hypocrisy.

GUESTS: Sheila Krumholz, Executive Director of the Center for Responsive Politics, Robert Greenwald, producer, director, political activist, and founder of Brave New Films
