Eric Drooker
The Start of the ’68 Siege in Chicago by Subversive Historian Gabriel San Roman

Exactly forty years ago on this day in people’s history, anti-war protesters clashed with Chicago police on the eve of the Democratic National Convention. On August 25th, 1968 a turbulent week of convention protests began with two marches and rallies in two parks. The Youth International Party, or the Yippies, staged a Festival of Life concert organized at Lincoln Park but by 11 p.m. a curfew imposed by Chicago Mayor Daley’s police was enforced and staying true to their unofficial motto of “we be clubbin!” the police cleared the park and pursued the majority of demonstrators who had already taken their protests to the streets. Many anti-war activists were injured in the ensuing violence as were 17 members of the press.

As this year’s Democratic National Convention is underway in the mile high city, protesters seeking to recreate the spirit of ’68 have to contend with a so-called free speech zone lined with fencing. Talk about a cage match…

For Uprising, this is your truth professa saying it’s no mystery why they conceal our history!
