Troy Davis Faces Execution… Again
| the entire program
Last July we brought you the story of Troy Davis, a young black man who was set to be executed by the state of Georgia for the crime of killing a white police officer. Thirty nine year old Troy Davis, who claims he was innocent, was convicted solely on the testimony of witnesses. There was no physical evidence linking him to the murder, nor was a murder weapon ever found. In fact, 7 of the 9 non-police witnesses who testified ended up recanting their allegations. But just 23 hours before Davis was to be killed by lethal injection, the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles issued a temporary stay of execution amid doubts about Davis’ guilt. And then Amnesty International published a 35 page report about Davis’ case, increasing national and international public scrutiny and building a movement of people working to gain him a new trial. But now, a new execution date has been set for Troy – next Tuesday September 23rd. Davis now faces only two options: clemency from the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles or a stay of execution by the Georgia state Supreme Court in order for the US Supreme Court to hear his appeal.
GUEST: Laura Moye, Deputy Director with the Amnesty International USA Southern Regional Office in Atlanta. For more information and to send a letter on behalf of Davis, visit www.amnestyusa.org, or send a text message on your cell phone to the number 90999. The body of the message should be “troy.”

I am wondering if Samuel Alitto of the supreme court will allow the hearing of anything to do with this case, since he is so pro death penalty. I find myself apologizing for being an American when I travel in foreign countries because of the backward, non tolerant & total punishment mentality of our police state. When will this archaic behavior end & intelligence of a high caliber begin to show the world that we too can be civilized, forgiving & a true leader of the world that seems to be missing from the picture of our secular democratic republic as originally laid down so many years ago.
