Sam Houston, President of Texas by Subversive Historian Gabriel San Roman

One-hundred and seventy-two years ago on this day in people’s history, Sam Houston was sworn in as the first President of Texas. On October 22nd, 1836 the slave owning opponent of the abolitionist movement began his first of what would be two terms of office presiding over the Lone Star Republic. Prior to Houston’s inauguration, Texas had been Mexican territory when Anglo settlers started an insurrection to establish independence. Houston became a commander of the Texas Army and led them into the key battle of San Jacinto. At the time of the insurrection, Anglos in Texas had come to disregard the conditions of their settlement such as the prohibition on the practice of Slavery.

Hmm, let’s see, immigrants coming into the territory of another country, outnumbering the existing population, disregarding the rules set forth by the government, planning an independence rebellion and eventual annexation to their previous country…sounds like these guys were the o.g. reconquistas!
