Israel Continues to Pound Gaza
| the entire program
More than 500 Palestinians have died in the Israeli attack on Gaza, now in it’s second week. The invasion has expanded from an air war to sea and land, with Israeli forces surrounding Gaza and its ground troops slicing the strip in two on Sunday. Hospitals are overloaded with injured patients that cannot get proper treatment because of the months-long Israeli blockade that preceded the invasion. Israeli officials have warned that the war may go on for days if not weeks and are refusing a ceasefire even as many heads-of-state around the world are calling for one. Hamas, the stated target of Israel, has managed to lob rockets into Israel deeper than before. Rage-filled demonstrations around the Arab world including in Turkey and Lebanon are calling for an immediate end to the assault. Meanwhile, President-elect Barack Obama has remained silent on the conflict even though he takes office in just about 2 weeks.
GUESTS: Michel Wexler, an Israeli refusenik currently based in the US, Ali Abunimah, co-founder of the website Electronic Intifada and author of the book “One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse.”
