February is Black History Month, and with the election of the nation’s first Black President, there has been some debate and discussion about the significance of allocating a month each year to Black History. Ron Daniels, the President of the Institute of the Black World, in a commentary recently said, “Those who would suggest devaluing the significance of Black History do so at the peril of Black people and the nation as a whole.” In that spirit today we celebrate Black History Month through the voices of black resistance preserved in the Pacifica Radio Archives. At the most important moments of Black history over the last 60 years, Pacifica has been there, recording and preserving. Today we’ll hear many voices and we’ll ask you to support this station and network.
Thank you gift: 30 Hours of Black History on a 3 Mp3 CD set for a pledge of $100.
