Resistance Then, Resist Now!
Forty five years ago this year, in the thick of the Vietnam War, a group of draft resisters founded an organization called simply The Resistance. The group grew to national stature attracting members from all over the country including Los Angeles. Now, to commemorate that 45th anniversary, original members of The Resistance will join today’s antiwar groups like Veterans for Peace and Arlington West at an event this weekend at Santa Monica Pier featuring panel discussions and cultural performances that will make the links between war, military recruitment, the economy, and healthcare. It’s called Resistance then, Resist Now! Special guests include the well known Vietnam war veteran Ron Kovic, whose own story was made famous in the award winning film, Born on the Fourth of July. Also present will be my guest today and one of the original members of The Resistance, Joe Maizlish.
GUESTS: Joe Maizlish, with California War Tax Resistance and other groups, and Ed Pearl, founder of the Ash Grove, and President, and Executive Director of Ash Grove music and organizer of this weekend’s event
The event is happening this Sunday October 25th from 2 – 4:30 pm at Santa Monica Beach, just north of the pier alongside Arlington West.
