Activist Report from Copenhagen

activistsSarah Palin, the darling of America’s extreme right wing, published an op-ed on yesterday’s Washington Post citing the recent so-called Climate-gate controversy as a good enough reason for President Barack Obama to boycott the on-going climate talks in Copenhagen. Obama plans to head there next week even as he is likely to face anger from many developing nations over a leaked draft agreement that the US is apparently party to, circumventing the process and spirit of the summit. Luckily for those in the struggle for climate justice, Sarah Palin does not represent most women. In fact, the head of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Lisa Jackson arrived this week and was warmly received for her part in declaring greenhouse gases a dangerous gas to humanity, and hence subject to regulation. Across the globe, women are not just on the receiving end of the brunt of global warming impacts, but are also on the forefront of innovative solutions to the crisis.

I often marvel at how off the mark this show is. Calling Sarah Palin the darling of the extreme right-wing of the right wing is a good example. Beat those tribal drums, Uprising! And let’s all pretend your useless crap means a damn. It’s all shirts v. skins for Uprising. And when the Democrats haven’t done anything to praise? Go to the well with yet another Palin attack!
Rah, rah, pound those drums, pound those drums and be incredibly useless and incredibly stupid.
